Introduction to Investment: The Foundation Qualification

The Introduction to Investment is the ideal induction qualification for new staff across the industry. The SII has worked in close collaboration with the Investment Management Association (IMA) to develop a new syllabus for this stand-alone foundation examination. It reflects the needs of leading investment firms. Success in the examination constitutes the first of three units of the full Investment Administration Qualification.

Aims

  To assess candidates’ general understanding of the investment industry and how it is structured;
  To encourage candidates to understand how their current or future role might fit into the broader structure of the industry;
  To ensure staff and prospective staff have a foundation level of knowledge from which they can later specialise.

 

Key features

The Introduction to Investment exam is a one-hour, 50 multiple choice question paper:

appropriate for staff entering the investment industry in a variety of roles, for example: investment administration, client services, IT, sales and marketing, Human Resources.
has broad coverage allowing candidates to demonstrate their general understanding and awareness of the industry and their role within it.



Colleges of Further Education

Introduction to Investment is appropriate for students preparing to enter the industry (for example as part of a Higher or Further Education programme) or for those newly recruited to the industry as part of their in-house induction programme. Additional Exam Information

Entry qualifications
There are no formal entry requirements for the Introduction to Investment qualification. Experience in the industry will help candidates relate what they are learning to the job they are doing but it is not a requirement of taking the qualification. Examination entries are accepted from private individuals as well as via an employer.
