SII Qualifications: An Introduction

SII Qualifications

The SII is widely acknowledged as the main provider of qualifications for the securities and investment industry. It offers a wide-ranging programme of qualifications for employees working in – or aspiring to work in - the financial services industry. The qualifications range from Introduction to Investment for new recruits to the industry, to the SII Diploma – the principle qualification for senior practitioners.

The SII also offers qualifications designed to fulfil the ‘licence to practice’ needs for key front-office job functions – the Certificate Programme is on the Financial Services Skills Council’s list of Appropriate Examinations that an employee has to hold before being permitted to undertake a particular activity unsupervised.

Qualifications Navigator

If you are planning to work in the industry, and need help finding the right qualification, then you should refer to the SII’s Interactive Qualifications Navigator as a guide to the various industry jobs and the appropriate SII qualification.

If you are still unsure what type of job you would like, you should read ‘Opportunities for Graduates’ and ‘Recent Graduates’ in Inside Careers as this will give you a picture of a number of different industry jobs. There are other publications and websites which you might find useful – www.prospects.ac.uk (select City and Finance under ‘Explore job sectors). You can also search on www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u for jobs in stockbroking, fund management or investment banking.
