The Purpose of the SII CPD Scheme
The SII CPD Scheme has been introduced to enable members to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to continuing professional development to both their employer and the relevant regulator.
It has been designed to ensure that all members, regardless of seniority, geographical location and industry specialisation, are capable of completing the scheme. It is free of charge for members to use and usage is on a voluntary basis. All grades of membership except Students may access the scheme.
The Institute is recommending that members complete a minimum of 35 CPD hours a year. In order to successfully log 35 hours, at least one hour must be logged in each of the four learning areas below. The SII has allocated a maximum number of claimable hours for each of these learning types. Members may log more hours if desired, but these will not count towards the 35 hour total. Upon completion, members will receive a formal certificate.
The four learning elements:

How to Achieve the 35 hours
The Institute offers a whole host of CPD opportunities for members including free CPD seminars, conferences, qualifications, SII Professional Refresher and many more. All SII CPD activities are automatically added to your CPD log to save you time. Only CPD undertaken outside of the SII needs to be logged manually. For a full list of the CPD opportunities the SII offers please see our CPD tools page.
Within the scheme, the Institute also recognises CPD activities provided by other recognised professional bodies and associations. These activities needs to be logged onto the system by members themselves. The Institute is also able to offer full accreditation of any firms' pre-existing CPD schemes. Please click on the following link for further information on accreditation.
Logging your CPD hours
To enable our members to keep a record of their CPD hours, the Institute has created a web-based logging system- SII CPD Log. All SII CPD activities are automatically added to your CPD log to save time.
Only CPD undertaken outside of the SII needs to be logged manually. To use the CPD logging system, members need to log in and register using their membership number and password, which are available by contacting siicpdscheme@sii.org.uk if not known.
Concessions
The SII has a policy of introducing concessionary CPD targets, on a case by case basis, for users of SII CPD Scheme who take extended leave during their CPD year. The concessionary target will be pro-rated according to the length of the absence.
For example, should a scheme user go on maternity leave for 6 months out of their CPD year, their target will be pro-rated to 17 CPD hours. Please note that for these purposes, nothing less than 3 (continuous) months of absence can be classed as extended leave and therefore qualify for the concessionary rate. If you are due to go on extended leave and would like to apply for the concessionary target, please email us at siicpdscheme@sii.org.uk.
