Member (MSI)

MSI membership is full membership of the SII, and denotes a high level of achievement and competence. It is awarded to those with a suitable combination of qualifications and experience. There are currently roughly 6,000 MSIs.

Eligibility

Full membership of the SII is normally aimed at those with post-graduate qualifications. It is available to:

Holders of the full SII Diploma
Holders of the SII Masters with a pass in Integrity Matters
Those who have previously passed 1or 2 SII Diploma papers, and have 3years of experience, either since passing the paper, or as an ASI
Holders of the Diploma in Investment Operations
Holders of the Diploma in Investment Compliance
ASI members of 3 or more years who hold an Advanced Certificate
ASI members who achieve 6 years of industry experience as an ASI member
ASI members achieving 4 years of successfully logged CPD under the SII CPD Scheme
Those who have a recognised qualification Please see the list of recognised qualifications

Progression

* MSI status is the main route to achieving Fellowship. MSI members with 3 years of successfully logged SII CPD who hold the full SII Diploma, or the CFA qualification, may apply to become FSI members.

* Please note these are our current requirements. These are subject to change from the 1 October 2009.

Additionally, MSI members in senior roles with over fifteen years of industry experience may apply for Member (MSI) via a combination of experience, seniority and professional qualifications. Please refer to our MSI via experience page for more information.

As with all categories of SII membership, MSI members who enrol upon any SII qualification are exempted from Qualification Registration Fee (QRF).

MSI members also receive the following benefits not available to ASI members:

Investment Management Review - Quarterly publication, exclusive to senior SII members.
Law Express- Unlimited, free legal advice for the member and his/her family via the free legal helpline.
Voting rights to elect SII board members
The ability to provide referees for any potential SII member.

Applying

MSI membership costs Ł155 annually, renewable every April. There is also a Ł50 joining fee. In order to apply for this category, please download and complete the Membership Application Form.

Details of the pro-rata fees are on the form itself. Please note that for applicants applying based on non-SII qualifications, a copy of the relevant pass certificate is required with the application form.

If you wish to apply for Member status based on seniority and industry experience, please download and complete the MSI Via Experience application form. Please note that the joining fee is Ł120 and is non-refundable in the event of an application being refused. Details of the pro-rata fees are on the form itself.
