There are five categories of SII membership: Affiliate, Student, Associate (ASI), Member (MSI), and Fellow (FSI). Student membership is a given free and automatically to those taking any SII qualification. Affiliate membership is aimed at staff who would like access to the benefits of SII membership, but who have no need to take SII professional qualifications.

For the remaining grades, a suitable qualification and/or level of experience is needed in order to meet the criteria.

Membership carries with it prestige and esteem and underpins the core values of the Securities & Investment Institute's Mission Statement. This is normally earned through achieving demanding professional qualifications and making a personal commitment to high standards of competence and integrity. In becoming a member, individuals join a group of fellow professionals in financial services.


An application form, in PDF format, exists for each membership grade, with special forms used for upgrading to a higher category and reinstating a lapsed membership.

As well as being available to download on this website, these application forms are also available on request from the Membership department. Application forms should be completed in full and returned, along with any necessary supporting documentation, to the Membership department.
