Grades of MembershipAssociate (ASI)

Associate (ASI) membership is aimed at those who have achieved benchmark, or threshold competency qualifications. Roughly 5,000 practitioners from all areas of the securities & investment industry currently use the ASI designation.

Eligibility:

ASI membership may be applied for upon passing a recognised benchmark qualification. Holders of any of the following SII qualifications may apply to become ASIs:

Membership Progression

* ASI membership can speed up the progression towards MSI status in several ways:
  • ASI may upgrade to full Member status upon achievement of six years' of industry experience, where these years are spent as an Associate.
  • Through the use of the SII CPD Scheme, ASI members may upgrade to MSI status upon completion of four years of successfully logged SII CPD.
  • Holders of one paper in the SII Diploma course who have been ASI members for three years may apply for an upgrade to MSI.
  • ASI members who pass one of the Advanced Certificate qualifications may upgrade to MSI status after three years as an ASI.

Applying

ASI membership costs £115 annually, renewable every April. There is a £25 processing fee for those that apply using the hard-copy* ASI application form. Alternatively, all those who achieve an SII benchmark qualification are sent an email upon becoming qualified, offering them the opportunity to join as an ASI online. As the online ASI application form is specially pre-filled, the SII does not charge the £25 processing fee to those that apply via this route.

*Please note that for candidates applying based on non-SII qualifications, a copy of the relevant pass certificate is required with the application form.
