We are delighted that Her Majesty the Queen signed the Charter on Friday 9 October 2009, formally creating the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).
This is a significant milestone in the history of the Institute, as we join the ranks of professional bodies such as the accountants, lawyers and bankers.
Scott Dobbie FSI(Hon), SII Chairman, said: “It is very pleasing that the SII, which has built an enviable reputation for professionalism in the sector, has had its position as a pre-eminent professional body endorsed by the award of a Royal Charter. I would like to thank all of our members and corporate members for their commitment to high standards in qualifications, continuing professional development and the promotion of integrity and ethics: the foundation stones of our application to the Privy Council.”
Ruth Martin, SII Managing Director said: “The Institute supports the FSA in its drive for professionalism with its emphasis on higher qualifications, continuous learning and adherence to a code of conduct with teeth. These are precisely the underpinning qualities of the Institute, on which our successful application to become a Chartered body was based.”
Royal Charters are granted to bodies that work in the public interest and demonstrate pre-eminence, stability and permanence in their particular field.
The SII has been dedicated to professionalism since it emerged from the London Stock Exchange almost 20 years ago. Achieving chartered status is an acknowledgement of the Institute’s work in bringing a greater measure of professionalism to the financial services industry, encompassing both skills and ethical behaviour.
For our members, the benefits of chartered status are two fold; members will benefit individually through enhanced standing in the industry and the wider community, together with the opportunity to become individually chartered.
