Types of Specialists
In order to deliver its examinations and associated study materials, the SII sources three main types of specialists. They are:
Exam Panel members
Each
subject area has a dedicated team of industry practitioners who assist with the development of the subject syllabus, exam papers and bank of questions. The Panel members ensure high standards as far as the accuracy and relevance of the examination is maintained.
Responsibilities
- attend panel meetings
- support the SII Exam Manager
- offer advice on industry developments and their effect on the syllabus
Item Writers and editors
Item (question) writers devise examination questions (and their answers) and are responsible for ensuring that their questions test the learning objectives properly. Each question and answer then undergoes a double editing process to ensure that it meets the required standard.
Responsibilities
- production of SII exam-standard questions
- matching exam questions to learning objectives
- working knowledge of the subject a distinct advantage
Workbook Authors & Reviewers
Workbook authors have financial sector experience and write or update workbooks to reflect changes in the industry and the syllabus. Reviewers are also required to assess existing workbooks in need of updating.

- addressing workbook review comments
- matching workbooks to the syllabuses
