The Institute of Bankers in Ireland and The Securities & Investment Institute (Ireland) launched its joint Certificate in Investment Management (Ireland).

The Securities & Investment Institute is the largest and most widely respected professional body for those who work in the securities and investment industry in the UK. At the launch, Brian Weber, President of the Securities & Investment Institute (Ireland) said “Fund Management and Private Client Asset Management has experienced significant growth in Ireland and attractive career opportunities are available. Specialist knowledge and skills will be needed by those who aspire to leadership roles in this business. I am confident that this Certificate will help equip students with the professional knowledge and skills necessary to successfully develop as leaders within this dynamic and exciting industry.”

He continued “The Securities and Investment Institute (Ireland) is delighted to partner with the Institute of Bankers to offer the Certificate in Investment Management (Ireland). This course is designed and delivered in collaboration with industry professionals and will be a valuable resource for all of our members in the industry. This programme promotes continuous professional development of investment management professionals”.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Anthony Walsh, Chief Executive of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland said “The Institute of Bankers, founded in 1898 and now with 30,000 members, is one of the oldest banking institutes in the world. In the spring of 2006 the Institute’s school of Professional Finance became the first ever external recognised school of University College Dublin. Through the new school the Institute ensures the curricula of its courses conform to the highest international academic quality assurance standards.

The focus of the Institute has broadened beyond retail banking to the wider financial services community. The growth in the number and diversity of programmes offered by the Institute reflects this focus. The success in achieving this growth lies with the Institute partnering with many other industry and professional bodies in the development of courses that meet the specific needs of the sector, in a delivery method suited to those who need to combine work and study. This partnership model has been used to great effect in the development of the Certificate in Investment Management (Ireland). We are delighted to have partnered with the Securities & Investment Institute (Ireland) in putting in place a course that is both relevant and rigorous and that links the classroom and workplace by combining the best in industry practice with the highest educational standards. ”

Successful completion of the programme will lead to the award of a Certificate in Investment Management (Ireland).

Certificate holders will have two modules towards the twelve module, Joint Financial Services Diploma (JFSD) of The Institute of Bankers in Ireland, the Insurance Institute of Ireland and LIA. Those who complete the JFSD may apply for direct entry to Stage 2 of the joint Institute of Bankers/UCD Bachelor of Financial Services Degree. They will also only be required to take a local financial regulation paper to achieve the necessary regulatory competency requirement to work in the UK.
