Graduate Application Procedure

Month Activity
October - December
  • research posts, check annual reports, check firms' websites
  • attend firms' presentations on campus
  • get your C.V. into excellent shape
  • complete any applications you have and submit them
  • ensure you know the various closing date
  • December
  • use your careers service for advice about interviews
  • practice your interviewing skills: if you have access to a video, use it - see how well you come across to a potential employer
  • January - February
  • first interviews will take place - probably on campus
  • February - March
  • second interviews - major assessment process
    expect: OPQs (occupational personality questionnaires), group exercises, verbal & non-verbal reasoning tests, numeracy tests, one to one and one to many interviews, giving a presentation, going to lunch and tests of how you react under pressure.
  • April
  • formal offers are generally made now
  • June - September
  • your career in the City commences

  • Non-Graduate Application Procedure

    There are also opportunities for 'A' level school leavers and those with a variety of experience to gain work in the City. Many of the jobs are open to non-graduates, these are often in the operations departments or as traders rather than in the highly specialised fields of corporate finance, fund management or analysis. Those with several years experience however, who show great promise, may apply for a stockbroking position within their company. They would have to demonstrate serious commitment and an understanding of the markets.
