  Fellowship (FSI) Via Experience

FSI By Seniority, Experience & Professional Qualifications

This new scheme is aimed at senior practitioners in the securities and investment industry who, with a combination of experience, seniority and relevant qualifications can now apply to become Fellows of the Institute.

It is a new alternative to the SII Diploma, qualifications-based route (the existing route for SII Diploma candidates is unaffected by this change). MSIs will be eligible to upgrade to FSI if they meet the strict eligibility criteria (and have been MSIs for at least one year). Non-members of the Securities & Investment Institute can apply to be considered for FSI as long as they also meet the (more stringent) eligibility criteria.

All applications will be assessed on a points system and each application will also be ratified by the SII Membership Committee. All matters relating to any application will be treated strictly in confidence.

Relevant documents that need to submitted along with the application are as follows:

  • Completed application form
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Evidence of any relevant qualifications
  • Evidence of membership of other relevant professional bodies/associations
  • Current job description/role profile
  • Current organisation chart
  • Statements of support from sponsors (only applicable if non SII members)
  • Evidence of senior management position

If you are an existing MSI you will be required to provide a sponsor who would normally be the Managing Director or CEO of your firm. If you are a non-member, you are required to provide 2 sponsors one of which should be a FSI and the other would normally be the Managing Director or CEO of your firm. If you are a non-member and cannot identify an FSI sponsor then your application will be referred automatically to the Membership Committee.

The registration and assessment fee is £100 (non refundable), which must be enclosed with your application form. Successful applicants will be admitted directly into SII Fellowship.

The annual subscription for Fellows is £125.00 (pro-rata rates apply) and non-SII members applying must enclose this fee with their form. Thereafter, the full year’s subscription is due for renewal in April each year.

In order to apply, please download the appropriate application form.
MSIs applying for an upgrade should use the Fellowship Via Experience- Upgrade application form, while those applying directly for Fellowship from outside of SII membership should use the Fellowship Via Experience application form.

In all cases, applicants should refer to the Notes For Guidance in order to be sure they meet the criteria, and have included all necessary documentation with their application.

The points system used to asses the applications can be found in the grid below. Please use this grid as guidance when applying, as the application fee is non-refundable.
