  Affiliate Membership FAQ

Affiliate Membership - FAQ Page

The Securities & Investment Institute is pleased to unveil a brand new category of membership: Affiliates! In this page, we have tried to answer some of the more frequently asked questions about this new category.

Q1. What is Affiliate membership?
Q2. Wasn't there an Affiliate, or SIAff category before?
Q3. How do you qualify for Affiliate membership?
Q4. How much does it cost?
Q5. What are the benefits?
Q6. Do Affiliates get designatory letters?
Q7. I am based overseas- can I still become an Affiliate?
Q8. My question has not been answered: to whom should I speak?

Q1. What is Affiliate membership?

A. Affiliate membership is a new category we have introduced for support staff, or anyone working within the financial services industry who does not hold, and is not likely to ever study for, an industry qualification. These include HR and training staff, marketing, IT, and secretarial/PA staff. Until now, these groups were unable to gain access to the many benefits of SII membership.

Q2. Wasn't there an Affiliate, or SIAff category before?

A. Up until April 2004, our Associate, or ASI category was known as Affiliate, or SIAff. This was changed as a result of feedback received by the SII suggesting that the term 'Affiliate' did not always give a clear indication to customers and clients that these members achieved threshold competency qualifications. This then freed up the term Affiliate for its current use.

Q3. How do you qualify for Affiliate membership?

A. As Affiliate membership is aimed at those who do do not hold industry qualifications, there are no admission criteria. Anyone working within the financial services industry that does not hold, and is not likely to study for, a regulatory qualification is welcome to apply. In addition, holders of the Securities & Investment Institute Introduction to Investment qualification may apply. As with all SII membership categories, Affiliates benefit from being exempt from the £25 exam registration fee.

Q4. How much does it cost?

A. Affiliate membership costs £80 a year, and pro-rata rates apply. Unlike most SII membership categories, there is no joining fee, only the annual subscription. Details of the pro-rata fees can be found on the
Affiliate Application form.

Q5. What are the benefits?

A. Affiliate membership benefits not only the member, but also the company as well. For just £80 a year, Affiliates receive:

  • Access to any four CPD Events events annually at the reduced rate of £20 each. This is just 50% of the normal price! Thereafter, events may still be attended, at the usual rate.
  • A 30% discount off any one SII Conference a year. This works out to be a saving of nearly £180 off the cost of an average day-conference!
  • Free use of SII CPD Online.
  • S&I Review- the official magazine of the Institute.
  • Access to the Institute's PIFs (Professional Interest Forums).
  • Free SII Dictionary of financial and securities terms, RRP £24.99.
  • SII Select Benefits.
  • Free, web-based benefits: Archive of speaker notes and slides from previous CPD events, webcasts of previous events, and access to exclusive EU Legislation information.
  • Discounts on publications, including Financial News.

You can also put your Affiliate status on your CV to demonstrate to any future employer your commitment to your career in the financial services industry.

Q6. Do Affiliates get designatory letters?

A. No - there are no designatory letters associated with this category of membership.

Q7. I am based overseas- can I still become an Affiliate?

A. Yes - all you need to do is complete the
Affiliate Application form and return it by fax or post to the Membership Department.

Q8. My question has not been answered: to whom should I speak?

A. There is a dedicated
Affiliate page on our website, but if you have any other questions that have not been answered here, please feel free to contact the Membership Department, who will be happy to help. They can be reached on: 020 7645 0650, or by email at memberservices@sii.org.uk.
